Last month's horrible tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut must become a call to action to protect all communities big and small from senseless violence.

Dear Speaker Boehner & Senator Reid:

No American will every forget the horrible tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut that took the lives of 26 children and adults. It cuts us to the core.

This shooting wasn't just the act of a single, troubled young man. It's the outcome of years of weakening gun laws, preventing stronger common sense ones from being passed. 

We need to see real leadership and we need to see results. We were told it wasn’t the right time after Tucson. It wasn’t time after Aurora or Madison. We’re done waiting. 

We, the undersigned, stand united in our support for tougher gun laws.  We need Republicans and Democrats to come together to help stop the violence by closing the gun loopholes that allow mentally-ill individuals and those with criminal records to buy guns, to buy them at under-regulated gun shows, and to buy them without comprehensive background checks.

This needs to be a never-again moment for this country.
